Start with the table's task, because the height depends on it:
- A side table between two chairs holds a drink and a book. Ours are 17.4 to 19 inches high.
- A coffee table anchors two or four chairs in a living room or den. Ours range from 16.9 to 20.3 inches high.
- A dining-height table, 30.5 inches high, is for meals, cards and work. We use one for our Steel-Leg Table Sets.

Are barrel tables typically sturdy?
Yes, when made from actual barrel parts. The Bordeaux-type Wine Barrel is built to contain about 59 gallons (225 liters) of wine, with the oak staves held together by steel hoops, and furniture built from it keeps that solid oak. When comparing tables, look for:
- Solid oak, not veneer. Our barrel chairs, half barrels and barrel-top tables are crafted from solid oak Bordeaux-type Wine Barrels.
- Steel where the weight sits. The dining-height Steel-Leg Table has 5mm steel legs. The smaller steel-leg table has 3mm legs, and the Hoop Side Table listing mentions modern reinforcement.
- A protective finish. Our pieces are finished with spar varnish for protection.
- Clear assembly. The steel-leg tables must be assembled; instructions are included. Before loading the table, check that all fittings are tight.

How much room does a barrel table and chair set need?
Add up the pieces and leave room to sit and stand:
