Whiskey Barrel Poker Table Buying Guide: Size, Seating and What to Look For

Short answer: For a home game, the best poker table is one you will use when there is no game: a sturdy round table that seats six, with comfortable chairs, and converts to a dining table. That’s what the Barrel Game Table Set from Oak Wood Wine Barrels does: a 55-inch round poker table laser-engraved for chips, with cup holders, six memory-foam barrel chairs and a removable dining top. $7,875, shipping free in the continental U.S.

1. Start with the room, not the table

Our game table is roughly 55.3 inches across and 30.7 inches high, and each barrel chair is about 28 inches wide and deep (sizes are ±5–10%, according to the product page). Players need space to pull chairs out and step behind them.

Our recommendation: leave about 3 feet from the table edge to the nearest wall on all sides, or 4 feet where people will walk behind seated players. That’s about 11 × 11 to 13 × 13 feet of clear floor space. Measure before you buy. A table that fits on paper but pushes chairs against a wall will not get as much use.

2. Seating: six is the sweet spot

A round table means each player is equidistant from the pot, and six people can fit around a 55-inch top. The set includes six barrel chairs with memory-foam seats, under-seat storage and wheels, so long games stay comfortable and the chairs roll back for cleaning.

3. Height and comfort

The table is around 30.7 inches high, close to normal dining height, so the same chairs work for dinner. Look for padded seats and backs: you sit at a poker table for hours, not minutes.

4. What to look for in the top

  • Chip spots: ours are laser-engraved into the top to keep stacks in place.
  • Cup holders: built in to keep drinks off the playing surface.
  • The playing surface: green velvet upholstery on our table.
  • A removable dining top: ours is a single complete piece, not two. Put it on for dinner, take it off for game night.
  • Wheels: the table and every chair roll. That makes a difference with a piece of this size.

5. How much does a poker table cost?

Price depends on what you get:

  • whether there are chairs and how comfortable they are;
  • solid wood versus laminate;
  • built-in features (chip spots, cup holders);
  • whether it doubles as a dining table.

A tabletop topper is an add-on purchase. A furniture-quality table with chairs is a furniture purchase.

Ours is $7,875 for the table, six chairs and the dining top. It’s a replacement for a dining set, so a lot of buyers compare it to a dining set, not a game table.

6. Poker table, game table or dining set?

7. Delivery and care

We stock most items, and they ship within 5 business days. A table set is delivered by appointment. Ordering for Christmas? Order by December 10.

Frequently asked questions

How expensive are poker tables?

It depends on what you want included: tabletop toppers are way cheaper than furniture-grade tables and chairs. Our six-chair barrel game table set with dining top is $7,875.

What is the best poker table for a home?

One that can fit in your room with some space to pull chairs out, can seat your usual game (six is the sweet spot), and earns its floor space on non-game nights, preferably with a removable dining top.

What are the best brands of poker tables?

Compare builds, not logos: solid wood, chairs included, padded seats, chip spots, cup holders, a removable top, and a seller who delivers large pieces by appointment.

How much space do I need for a six-player table?

About 11 × 11 to 13 × 13 feet of clear floor for our 55-inch table.

Does it come with chairs?

Yes. The Game Table Set includes six barrel chairs with memory-foam cushions, seat storage and wheels.
